Just a quick post on this cool effect you can demonstrate in the classroom. You need a strong and small magnet (in the video I am using a neodymium magnet). You pass a direct current though the the coil. In the video you notice a clicking sound at the end, this is me turning the power supply off so that it does not short out!
The reason this happens is because of the motor effect. There are loads of great resources on this effect, and in a later blog post I will go into the detail of how this works. But for now I just wanted to share this cool effect.
